5 Tips For Traveling With CBD

The laws surrounding CBD can be murky at times. Because of this, people sometimes choose to leave their CBD products behind, rather than navigate the legal questions. But with a little knowledge and preparation, you can bring your CBD and leave the worry behind. Read our 5 tips for traveling with CBD:

5 Tips For Traveling With CBD

1. Do your research

The Transportation and Safety Administration (TSA) recently changed the rules on cannabinoid products, deeming them legal, as long as they "contain no more than 0.3 percent THC on a dry weight basis or that are approved by FDA."

Additionally, examine the Certificate of Analysis (CoA) to ensure your CBD product meets the legal requirements. As long as it is clearly labeled it should not cause a problem during security screening.

It's also important to research the laws in the state you're traveling to because they can vary.

2. Pack it with your other liquids

If you decide to take your CBD product in your carry-on luggage, pack it with any other liquids. The same rules apply to any liquids in your carry-on: it must be less than 3.4 ounces and put in a clear quart-sized bag. Remove this from your luggage to go through security.

3. Don't hide it

If your product meets the legal requirements you can be confident about taking it through security. Being upfront about it and presenting it for inspection is the best choice. If it seems that you're trying to hide it, TSA employees can confiscate it.

4. Bring any available documentation

Certainly, keep your CBD in the original bottle, and it's best to keep the packaging too, to make it clear exactly what you're carrying. It's also a good idea to print out the CoA and bring it with you.

5. Time your dosing

You can pack your CBD in your checked luggage to sidestep dealing with security, but that won't help if you're using it to reduce anxiety about flying. If that's the case, bring it with you and remember to take a dose about 30 minutes before takeoff. This should give it time to hit your bloodstream when you need it. Another dose before landing is a good idea to maintain an even effect during the two most stressful portions of the flight.

CBD can provide helpful support for dealing with anxiety, sleep problems, or pain that many people experience during travel. Knowing the laws around CBD can help you make the right decisions for your health and comfort.
